He gained international fame for his advanced research on the history of hadith, translation of the Quran into French and his important role in promoting Islam in the heart of the West. After obtaining his MA and LLB degrees from Osmania University, he went to Europe for higher education and research. He obtained his D.Phil from Bonn University (Germany) and his doctorate from Sorbonne University (Paris). Dr. Sahib was a professor at Osmania University, Hyderabad for some time. After going to Europe, he also taught at universities in Germany and France. He was associated with the National Center of Scientific Research in France for about twenty years. In addition, his extended sermon series continued in many universities in Europe and Asia. The book under consideration, Khutbat Bahawalpur, is actually a collection of twelve sermons on various scientific topics delivered by Dr. Hamidullah on the invitation of Jamia Abbasia (Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan) in March 1980 at the university under the chairmanship of judges, scholars, and university chancellors and deans, which is known as Khutbat Bahawalpur among academic circles, lawyers, and intellectuals. These sermons continued continuously from March 8, 1980 to March 20, 1980. In addition to the teachers, students of Islamia University of Bahawalpur, a large number of scholars and intellectuals of the city, including distinguished guests from other cities of the country, used to come to listen to these sermons. The first edition of these sermons was published in April 1981 and received great public acceptance. The following is the eleventh edition of Khutbat Bahawalpur, which has been published with great excellence on good paper by the Islamic Research Institute, Islamabad.
