Some information about the author:

Harold Albert Lamm (1892-1962) is known worldwide as a cinematographer, historian, writer and medieval historian. Born in Alpine, New Jersey (USA). He studied at Columbia University, where Carl Van Doren and John Erskine were among his teachers. During this time, Lamm became interested in the peoples and history of Asia. His works cover a wide range of subjects, from Athens and Vienna to the Great Wall of China. He traveled throughout this region many times. Lamm started with pulp magazines and soon began writing for the well-known adventure magazine. For the next nineteen years, he demonstrated his talent as a fiction writer. In 1927, he wrote a biography of Genghis Khan, after the success of which he turned his attention away from fiction and focused on other genres. By the time of his death, he had written numerous biographies and popular historical books. Inspired by the success of his two-volume book "Crusades", Cecil B. de Milly appointed Lam as his consultant for a film about the Crusades. He also worked as a screenwriter on several films. Lam was fluent in French, Latin, Persian and Arabic. His prose was simple and distinctly different from that of his contemporaries. The stories were based on deep research and often featured real historical characters who were unique to his Western readers. He avoided the facile tendency to portray foreign or unfamiliar cultures negatively. Many of his heroes were Mongols, Indians, Russians or Muslims, moreover, they were unfamiliar with foreign or cultural backgrounds and most of them were skilled swordsmen and warriors. Many of Harold Lam's books were translated into Urdu in India and Pakistan. Saladin Ayubi, Amir Timur, Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, Suleiman the Magnificent, Babur the Tiger, Hannibal, Nur Mahal, Constantinople, Cyrus the Great, the Mongols and their leaders, the invasion of the Tatars and the Kazakhs are the most famous.

Muhammad Yousuf Abbasi was born on 4 September 1921 in Gujranwala. He received his MA and PhD in History from the Punjab University, Lahore and started his career as a lecturer in History. In 1949, he joined the teaching staff of the Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul and taught in Nigeria from 1962 to 1968. In 1974, he retired from his duties as Head of the Department of Modern Subjects Teaching from the Army Education Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel. Later, he was appointed as an Associate Professor at Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad and held the post of Chairman of the Department of History. After that, he served as Professor of History and Chairman of the Department of History and Pakistan Studies at the Islamia University, Bahawalpur. He was appointed as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research, Islamia University, Bahawalpur. He was also a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research, Islamabad. One of his prominent works is "Muslim Politics and Leadership in South Asia 1876-1892", published in 1981. Urdu translations include Harold Lamb's "The Crusades: The Flame Of Islam" (Salauddin Ayubi) and Pearl S. Buck's "East Wind: West Wind" (New Old) and Balzac's novella "The Mamas". The English translation of Imam Nawawi's "Arba'in" was published as "Forty Gems". His other books include "Syed Ameer Ali: A Political Biography" and "Pakistani Culture: A Historical Perspective".
