The essence of character writing springs from character recognition and the main purpose of character writing is character building. The life of nations depends on its sons who can devote their all to their country and nation. “The border that is not reached by the martyrs is erased.” The passion and thought that is present in this saying of Mukhtar Masood tells us that it is not only necessary to mention the martyrs but also to highlight the values that inspire an individual to sacrifice his life and protect the country and homeland. Among our writers who have dedicated their talents to cultivating these values, Saeed Rashid is the most important. The life situations of many of our martyrs have emerged from his pen. Colonel Haq Nawaz Kayani is one of our martyrs who has also attained martyrdom and lived as a Ghazi. In 1965, he fought in Kashmir, showing the essence of bravery at every opportunity. He has shown bravery by looking death in the eyes, but nature valued his life, so death has been protecting him at every step. He survived at critical points while his comrades were martyred. In 1971, when we were heartbroken after the separation of East Pakistan and the enemy's morale was increased by our own shortcomings and the conspiracies of others, Colonel Kayani stepped forward to breathe new life into the nation. He challenged the opponents drunk with victory and set a shining example of self-sacrifice by defeating the enemy army, which had a military force many times greater than his own at a very difficult, difficult and critical point. The history of this battle has been described in detail by Saeed Rashid Sahib. “Martyr of Kashmir Colonel Haq Nawaz Kayani” is not a biography of one person, but an invitation to change the world of hearts and minds, a message to mold the education system and the whole life into such a structure that awakens the passion of dying and living for high values and traditions in the new generation.

The book under review is about one of the most important heroes of our army. It is our moral and religious duty to shed light on the achievements of martyrs and keep their memory fresh, and it is also a constant source of inspiration for the new generation. Martyr Haq Nawaz Kayani was a man of extraordinary fighting abilities. He won the Star of Courage for his commando exploits in Kashmir in the 1965 war, then in 1972 he performed an amazing feat in the Lipa Valley and was martyred. His courage and steadfastness raised the morale of our army and the entire nation. The author of this book, Professor Saeed Rashid, is one of the very old teachers of the Military College and several books have come out of his pen under the Department of Research and Development. I found the style of narration of this book to be common sense and interesting. The author has adopted a dramatic technique. On the basis of interviews and discussions with various people, he has compiled a simple and comprehensive biography from reliable sources. Instead of saying much on his own behalf, the author has drawn a picture of his hero with the help of the impressions of others, for which he deserves praise.

Some about the author:
Professor Saeed Rashid was born on 20 January 1927. He received his primary education from Kotwal and studied from class IV to FA at Islamia Inter College, Bareilly. This college came into existence due to the educational movement of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. During his youth, the Pakistan Movement was in full swing in Bareilly. He also heard the inspiring speeches of Attaullah Shah Bukhari, Zafar Ali Khan and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in 1942. After completing his Masters in Urdu in 1949, he joined the Teacher Training College at Aligarh Muslim University. Here he got the opportunity to benefit from teachers like Dr. Zakir Hussain, Dr. Hadi Hassan, Dr. Khwaja Ghulam-ul-Saideen, Professor Rashid Ahmed Siddiqui and Professor Habib-ur-Rehman. He was greatly influenced by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan's movement and the Pakistan Movement. He set foot on the soil of Pakistan on June 11, 1950 and was associated with the Military College Jhelum as soon as he arrived here. He retired from service in 1990 and remained the principal of Army Public School Jhelum and Mangla Cantt for the next four years. He was the director of the Islamabad Tameer-e-Millat Institute of Education Research. He was also the director of Character Building and Pakistaniism at the Sultana Foundation, Islamabad. He was a teacher as well as an excellent historian. Dozens of his books are still popular today. Pakistaniism and character building were filled in them. On June 19, 1999, after an illness in Rawalpindi, he left this mortal world forever, leaving his indelible impressions and memorable writings.
